Refrigerator Magnets

I made this for one of my friends when she found out she is pregnant. I like it more than a card because one I made it myself, other its easier to display. I cross stitched the pattern on the fabric and finished the corners for a neater look.
Then I glued the pattern on a thick sheet of paper trimmed to the required size. Magnetic sheets are easily available in craft stores like Michaels and Jo Ann and they come with a sticky back. I just had to trim the magnetic sheet and stick the pattern.

I made one with a cupcake and a candle for my hubby's birthday. I think this idea can be extended to make wonderful messages for friends and family. And as its easy to display they will be reminded of you every time they see it :).

Lovely Pumpkin -Nice Halloween Gift

I had bought this Cast Iron Pumpkin Candle Holder few days back. We had to go to a friend’s House warming ceremony. I thought it’s a good opportunity to make this cast iron candle holder a little bit more appealing. Season being Fall, got an inspiration to decorate this.

It was Sunday morning and I had sometime to spare and my baby and hubby were sleeping. I made a small flower arrangement using two orange colored rose and few maple leaves and few berry twigs and within few minutes this lovely arrangement was ready. I packed it nicely and gave it to my friend who was really happy getting some handmade gift.

Activity Board for Babies-An inexpensive way to add fun and education at the same time

Few days back I was reading about what should be done for 9 month old babies to aid in their development. One of the things that kept coming up was they should be exposed to pictures of various kind. The idea is to keep them interesting. It can be a picture of a cartoon character or a family member or of the baby himself. Through this you are making the baby familiar with its surroundings and what different things are there on this beautiful planet earth. So I came up with the idea of an Activity board. Not too sure of how my baby will respond to this, I started by buying a cork base activity board from Wal-Mart .Using push pins I decorated it with very simple things which I already had in my home. I had a birthday cap from one of the birthdays we recently attended and there was Elmo’s picture on that. I opened that cap and it turned out very interesting to put on the board. My baby is so excited to see Elmo on the board. She tries to look at the board and find out what’s new. I have put some pictures of Pooh, cut from one of the toys we have bought her recently. I also cut out very simple design of four butterflies from construction paper for a change and it was a big hit with my baby. Seems she loves the different colors and the change on the board. The height of the board should be just above babies can reach and at their eye level so that they can look at it with ease.

I keep updating it as and when I get time and keep changing the stuff based on what interests my daughter. This is how the activity board looks now.Now it also has some stuff made by her :).

Get creative with fabric

This is something I made just for fun but it did turn out nice. I had some left over fabric with interesting self print. I simply stitched the outline with a bright colored embroidery thread. This is very easy to do craft project and does not need many supplies.

You can use use left over fabric as I used or get a specific pattern and stitch the outline. This idea can be used to decorate your kid's nursery by choosing a bright colored fabric with geometrical patterns like circles etc or animals.

I just framed mine and hung them in the hallway.

Candle Stand Accents Creme de la creme

This is one of my favourite creations.
The base is metal candle stand. To which I have added cute accents made out of a set of cream colour roses made out of Double crepe paper. Since its done keeping Christmas theme in mind, I have used Christmas wreath leaves and some Gypsophilia or Baby Breath flowers to give a contrast.
Overall , its a piece which enhances the beauty of the candle stand with lovely cream colour roses which add style and sophistication with the leaves giving a Christmas feel to it. Now you just need a pair of candles to just lit up your center table or side table.

My blog..

I have always enjoyed creating stuff with with our mom as a kid and later on with my sisters. My quest for creative satisfaction continued through out my college education and professional life. And now that I am a proud stay at home mom of a beautiful daughter I feel like sharing those ideas with other moms, sisters , friends and hope that they get the same joy that we used to get after creating something on our own.

I may eventually add my sisters as contributors on this blog :) . Most of our ideas might be similar but since we have been apart for so many years now - it would be great to know how different or similar we are when it comes to crafting.

I also cannot wait for my daughter to grow up and be able to share with her the moments I shared with my mom and sisters.
